A construction worker has fallen through some roofing, landing on a scaffolding pole in Doncaster, in Melbourne's outer east.

The worker had to be hoisted to safety by a crane after falling nearly 3 metres.

He was working on the 10-storey public housing development on Tram Rd, Doncaster when the accident happened.

Ambulance crews arrived to treat the man. The 25-year-old man was taken to Box Hill Hospital in a stable condition.

A Gold Coast construction worker was injured after he fell from scaffolding on a building site.

The 48 year old man, who was working on the first level of the Gold Coast University Hospital when he fell.

He was taken to Gold Coast hospital in a stable condition.

More than two years after a massive 200-foot-tall, 150-ton crane collapsed and killed seven people, a rigger was set to go on trial this week on criminal charges of causing one of the nation's deadliest crane accidents by using the straps unsafely.

The March 2008 collapse — and a second New York crane collapse that killed two people two months later — raised concerns about crane safety in the city and elsewhere. New York has since launched a slate of new crane regulations.

A construction worker in Perth, Western Australia, has been injured on top of a city building which required a large scale emergency response.

Ambulance crews needed to catch a lift 50 metres up an unfinished building to assess the man, while traffic in the CBD was disrupted as adjoining roads near the building were closed in order to carry out the emergency.

The man slipped at a construction site on Murray Street around midday. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Worksafe WA is investigating the incident.

Construction of the new $65 million Bunbury Catholic Cathedral suffered a setback when a crane arm collapsed.

The crane arm fell while it was being raised for the first time after receiving modifications for the next construction phase.

It was a metre from the ground with a full exclusion zone underneath as it was being raised before collapsing.

The arm had been modified by its Perth suppliers to extend higher to allow construction of the bell tower and spire.

On 20 May 2010, a 54 years old male person residing at Croyden NSW, sustained massive head injuries while attempting to decouple a truck dog trailer at the site known as Denistone Public school. He was transported to Royal North Shore Hospital by ambulance and died later that day as a result of his injuries. 

The matter was reported to WorkCover, the Police and ambulance who attended the scene of the incident following the 000 call.

On 7 May 2010, a 52 years old man who suffered head injuries when he fell from an unsecured ladder, died as a result of his injuries. The victim was undertaking some painting touch-up at the TAFE College Kogarah NSW. He was transported to the nearby Hospital by ambulance but died some four days later as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The matter was reported to WorkCover and the police who attended the scene of the incident.

On the 22 April 2010, a rigger had a lucky escape as the crane he was working on became unbalanced, subsequently throwing him off the crane. He was left hanging over the side of the crane below the counterweights some 40 metres up in the air.

His knowledge and skill to safely and securely connect his harness to the crane saved him from any serious injury or death.

The fining of two WA construction companies for failing to provide edge protection has prompted a strong - but welcome - response from WorkSafe WA.

Head contractor Morago Nominees Pty Ltd – trading as Gavin Constructions – was fined $4000, and subcontractor Airdas Pty Ltd – trading as Tyrone Bricklaying – was fined $2000 in Armadale Magistrates Court in February.

On 19 January 2010, a 53 year old male truck driver sustained fatal injuries when an articulated vehicle (semi trailer) he was driving rolled on him, while he was tipping soil on a reclamation site at Menangle Park Paceway.  Contractor. Read the full report.
