Dean Hall elected as new CFMEU Secretary

Dean Hall was elected as the Secretary by the CFMEU Committee of Management on Wednesday January 27.

Dean has been a member of the CFMEU for 12 years, serving as Assistant Secretary for the previous two. Before being elected as the Assistant Secretary, Dean worked as a OH&S construction worker and as a school teacher. He holds a Bachelor of Social Work. Dean was born in Yass and is married to Melissa, and has two young children.

“I am proud and humbled to have been elected to this important position,” Dean said. “To be elected secretary of a union with such a long and proud tradition is a wonderful moment for me and I will put all of my effort into ensuring the union continues to go from strength to strength.

“I have a great team around me, with Jason O’Mara elected as Assistant Secretary (pictured right) and Jason Jennings as President. We will be working closely together to ensure the best outcomes for safety, training and wages in the construction industry.

“I want to take this opportunity to assure members that we have not taken our eyes off the ball for one minute. Safety is still our number one priority and our organisers have continued to work hard to secure collective agreements that lock in the wages and conditions that workers in this demanding occupation deserve.

“The CFMEU is committed to remaining an important player in public life, supporting the Stanhope Labor Government, Canberra Raiders, Canberra United and many important charities.”
